Norman Rockwell Museum Receives First Place Award of Excellence in International Brochure CompetitionPosted on October, 25 2007 STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Walter and Mary Jo Engels, Mark Gold, and Steven Hirsch were elected to three-year terms to the Norman Rockwell Museum's Board of Trustees at the annual meeting held on September 28, 2007.
"We are pleased to welcome our new board members," said Board President Dan Cain. "Their knowledge in the areas of business, the arts, and charitable giving will add considerable expertise and enthusiasm to the Norman Rockwell Museum Board of Trustees. We thank the trustees whose terms ended this year, Michael P. Daly, Jeffrey Kleiser, Diana Walczak, and Thomas Rockwell, for their service and important contributions to the Museum."
New Trustees
Walter and Mary Jo Engels were members of the Norman Rockwell Museum's National Council prior to joining its board. Mr. Engels was First Vice President of Smith Barney's Garden City, Long Island, New York, office before his retirement in 2005. He currently serves as President of Nazareth Nursery in New York City, a Montessori pre-school for disadvantaged children, and is on the financial advisory board for the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities in Syracuse, New York. Mrs. Engels, a retired nurse, is a volunteer pastoral care person at Winthrop Hospital, Mineola, New York, and is a panelist for the New York Stock Exchange Hearing Board.
Mark Gold is partner in the law firm of Grinnell Smith LLP in Williamstown, Massachusetts, with a focus in the areas of business and nonprofit organizations, contracts, venture capital, finance, acquisitions, and estate and charitable planning. He is very involved with arts and philanthropic organizations. He wrote "Death by Ethics" for Museum News (Nov/Dec 2005) and was a presenter at the 2006 Annual Meeting of the American Association of Museums. Mr. Gold is the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, Inc. and presently chairs its Fund for Williamstown. He is a member of Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and the Berkshire and Massachusetts Bar Associations.
Steven Hirsch is President, Media Sales, for CBS Television Distribution, the preeminent company in worldwide television syndication. With a passion for collecting early-twentieth-century-American art, Mr. Hirsch has amassed a collection of artworks created between 1905 and 1945, which focus on realism, sculpture, and murals. He has served on the board of the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College, to which he and his wife Susan have donated more than 70 artworks. Mr. and Mrs. Hirsch have also underwritten a Disability Awareness lecture series at Vassar College.
